Charles L. Roper, MD, a groundbreaking cardiothoracic surgeon and a professor emeritus of surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, died of respiratory failure Dec. 17, 2015, in Kirkwood, Mo. He was 90.

Cheryl Marie Mueller, clinical administrator in the Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases at the School of Medicine, died Dec. 17, 2015, after a 12-year battle with cancer. She was 52.

Washington University in St. Louis will be well-represented at a pivotal environmental summit, held in India and hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Chancellor Mark Wrighton and Pratim Biswas, PhD, the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Professor and Chair of the Department of Energy, Environmental and Chemical Engineering, will each give talks to scientists and researchers gathered in Mumbai for the 5th International Conference on Advances in Energy Research. 

Jason S. Goldfeder, MD, a revered teacher in the Division of Medical Education of the Department of Medicine at the School of Medicine, died Dec. 9, 2015, following a 12-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Charnele Dawson, a candidate for a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in anthropology from Arts & Sciences, receives congratulations from Chancellor Mark S. Five Washington University in St. Louis faculty have been awarded Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program grants to study abroad during the 2015-16 academic year. Patrick “Pat” Burton, director of financial administration in Alumni & Development Programs at Washington University, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at his home in Wildwood, Mo. He was 51.
