Dance Marathon returns with Beyonce, rave hours
Dance Marathon will take place Saturday, Nov. 12. The annual 12-hour dance party raises money for local children’s hospitals and features food, music, student performances and themed dance hours. Organizers also will remember Maggie Ryan, the 2015 executive director, who died in a car accident in May, two days after graduation.
Board of Trustees grants faculty appointments, promotions
At the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees meeting Oct. 7, several faculty members were appointed with tenure or promoted with tenure.
Supporting emotional health of students of color
Experts from around the country will convene at the Brown School Nov. 11 for the Young, Gifted and @Risk conference — an event that explores how campus communities can support the mental health and emotional well-being of students of color.
Debate Diary
More than 65 million people tuned in to the Oct. 9 debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Watching at home, it can be hard to appreciate the scale of the endeavor, but a group of students from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, working behind the scenes, sought to document the energy and intimacy of life at ground level.

A message to the university community about Amendment 3
On Tuesday, Nov. 8, Missouri voters will be asked to consider a ballot initiative — Amendment 3 — that relates to an increase in our state’s tobacco tax. Though simple on its face, Amendment 3 raises very serious concerns, particularly for world-leading research institutions like ours.
Specifics of new Danforth Campus parking, transportation plan announced
Last month, a new parking and transportation management strategy that will be implemented following May 2017 Commencement was announced. The new plan – which will address key weaknesses in the current program, enhance alternative transportation options and improve resource utilization to better serve the campus community – has been in development over the past year.
Inazu installed as Sally D. Danforth Distinguished Professor of Law and Religion
John Inazu has been installed as the inaugural Sally D. Danforth Distinguished Professor of Law and Religion. A lecture and a reception to celebrate the occasion were held Sept. 7 in the Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom and Crowder Courtyard in Anheuser-Busch Hall.
Veteran in Brown School helps other vets help themselves
Veteran and Brown School student James Petersen is organizing the biggest Veterans Day event in recent university history featuring panel of combat veterans and an address by U.S. Sen. Claire. McCaskill. After serving in Iraq’s infamous Abu Ghraib prison, Petersen suffered from PTSD. The therapy he received inspired him to earn his master in social work so he can help other veterans.
