Washington People: Bruce Lindsey
Bruce Lindsey, dean of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Art’s College of Architecture and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design, discusses the challenges, benefits and responsibilities of architectural education. In July, he began his term as president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.
University librarian search committee formed
A search committee to identify candidates for the position of university librarian at Washington University in St. Louis has been formed by Provost Holden Thorp. The position was formerly held by Jeffrey G. Trzeciak, who left the university in July.
Amiri appointed associate vice chancellor for finance and treasurer
Mark N. Amiri, formerly vice president for finance and chief investment officer at Baylor Scott and White Health in Dallas, has been appointed associate vice chancellor for finance and treasurer at Washington University in St. Louis, effective Aug. 1, according to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton.
Liu installed as Fossett Distinguished Professor
Hong Liu, professor of finance and director of the master’s in finance program at Washington University’s Olin Business School, has been installed as the Fossett Distinguished Professor. Liu, whose research focuses on asset pricing and market microstructures, has served as a member of the Olin faculty since 1998.

Obituary: Jessie L. Ternberg, professor emerita of surgery, surgery in pediatrics, 92
Jessie L. Ternberg, PhD, MD, a professor emerita of surgery and surgery in pediatrics, died July 9, 2016, of natural causes while on vacation in Zermatt, Switzerland. She was the first female surgical resident at Barnes Hospital and served for decades at the School of Medicine and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Ternberg, of Creve Coeur, was 92.

High schoolers tackle systems of gun violence
A few dozen St. Louis area high school students gathered for a summit this summer to discuss how system dynamics can affect gun violence in the community. The second annual Changing Systems Student Summit was sponsored by the Brown School’s Ferguson Seed Fund and Social System Design Lab and the Institute for Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis.
‘Understanding what we see’
In “Bob’s Tour,” recent Sam Fox School alumnus Jun Bae explores the community activism of associate professor Bob Hansman. The feature-length documentary will be screened July 18 at the Tivoli Theatre as part of Cinema St. Louis’ Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase.
