Nobel laureate Rita Levi-Montalcini, who conducted groundbreaking research during her three decades at Washington University in St. Louis, will be posthumously inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame April 6.

On Sunday, April 23, the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will present its 88th Annual Fashion Design Show at Third Degree Glass Factory. The event will feature dozens of models wearing scores of outfits by six junior and eight senior fashion design students.

Washington University will begin implementing its new parking and transportation strategy July 1 to help ensure campus parking resources are aligned with current and future needs. A new West Campus shuttle begins operations today. Employees are encouraged to try the shuttle and other commuting alternatives during April.

The Association of Latin American Students presents Carnaval March 31 and April 1 in Edison Theatre. Carnaval co-chair Anabel Medrano said this year’s performance showcases Latino dances and addresses America’s ongoing immigration debate.

Celebrated painter Laylah Ali (MFA ’94) will receive the Dean’s Medal for outstanding contributions to the field of art from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. In all, seven outstanding alumni will be recognized during the school’s annual Awards for Distinction dinner April 6 for demonstrating creativity, innovation, leadership and vision in their respective fields.

Donald Stahl, a master’s degree student in University College in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died March 22 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond Heights, Mo., after suffering a heart attack on campus. He was 73.

Anthony J. Azama has been named the John M. Schael Director of Athletics at Washington University in St. Louis. Azama arrives on the Danforth Campus after spending the past two years as senior associate athletics director for external operations at Columbia University in New York.

Peter G. Sortino, assistant vice chancellor at Washington University in St. Louis and a longtime St. Louis civic leader, died Friday, March 24, 2017, at his home in Sunset Hills, Mo., of pancreatic cancer. He was 62.
