Five to receive honorary degrees
Washington University in St. Louis will award five honorary degrees during its 157th Commencement May 18. During the ceremony, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Brookings Quadrangle on the Danforth Campus, the university will bestow academic degrees on approximately 3,000 members of the Class of 2018.

The Ethic of Service Award celebrated 15 years of civic engagement and service April 17. Founded during Washington University in St. Louis’ sesquicentennial year by Bob Virgil, dean emeritus of Olin Business School, and his wife, Gerry, the awards have honored some 100 members of the Washington University community.

In honor of Arbor Day on Friday, April 27, Washington University in St. Louis is celebrating its four allées — tree-lined paths that shade walkways, clean our air and make walking on campus one of the great joys of working and studying at the university.
Parking permit rates for 2018-19 announced
Washington University in St. Louis announced pricing for those interested in purchasing parking permits for the 2018-19 academic year as well as updates to two alternative transportation offerings, the Bearly Drivers Carpool and the Occasional Parking Program.

Obituary: Christine Floss, research professor in physics, 56
Christine Floss, research professor in the Department of Physics in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died April 19, 2018, in St. Louis. She was 56. Floss was a leader in the university’s Laboratory for Space Sciences.
Woofter selected as inaugural Sam and Marilyn Fox Professor
Heather Woofter has been selected as the inaugural Sam and Marilyn Fox Professor in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. An installation ceremony will take place next fall. Woofter, co-director of the St. Louis-based firm Axi:Ome llc, was appointed director of the Sam Fox School’s College of Architecture and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design in 2017. She has been a member of the architecture faculty since 2004.

Obituary: James Lee, surgery department coordinator, 59
James Lee, coordinator of international scholars and patients in the Department of Surgery at the School of Medicine, died April 7 in St. Louis following a brief illness. He was 59. A memorial celebration will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in Connor Auditorium on the Medical Campus.
