Washington University’s Black Alumni Council celebrates 35 years of keeping black alumni connected with the university and each other.

Andrew and Barbara Taylor are two of the institution’s staunchest supporters. They cherish the opportunity to serve WashU, whether by leading a comprehensive campaign, fostering student success or sponsoring new areas of medical research.

The School of Law’s Access to Justice Public Interest Law & Policy Speaker Series spring lineup features lawyers, judges, authors and academics who will address a spectrum of high-profile issues. Journalist Amy Sullivan will present on religion in the 2020 presidential election on Jan. 30.

A book by John Bowen, professor of anthropology and the Dunbar-Van Cleve Professor in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, received an honorable mention for the 2019 Laura Shannon Prize in Contemporary European Studies.

Chancellor-elect Andrew D. Martin has announced three new members of his office staff: Rebecca Brown, Jill Clark and Nancy Lyons. Martin also has launched a new website.

Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton and his wife, Risa Zwerling Wrighton, will receive the 2019 Rosa L. Parks Award for their service to St. Louis’ young people at Washington University in St. Louis’ Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in Graham Chapel.

Monique Bedasse, assistant professor of history and of African and African-American studies in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has won the 2018 Wesley-Logan Prize in African diaspora history.

Gerald Medoff, MD, professor emeritus of medicine and beloved former director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the School of Medicine, died peacefully Jan. 14, 2019, in hospice care in Creve Coeur, Mo., following a long bout with Parkinson’s disease. He was 82.

Six faculty members from Washington University in St. Louis have won Emerson Excellence in Teaching awards.
