William F. Tate IV, dean of the Graduate School, vice provost for graduate education and the Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been appointed executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of South Carolina, effective in July.

Lori S. White, vice chancellor for student affairs and professor of practice in education at Washington University, has been appointed president of DePauw University, effective July 1. She will leave her current position on May 31 to assume her new role, according to Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.

Anne Tao, a respected businesswoman, philanthropist, community leader and Washington University in St. Louis benefactor, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, in Franklin, Tenn. She was 98.

Develop an open-source nuclear detection system. That was the charge from the U.S. Department of Defense to members of its new internship program, the X-Force Fellowship. Senior Libby Evan and junior Jina Hyun are representing the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis in Varsity Art XXIV. The annual exhibition, which opens Feb. 28, is hosted by Art St. Louis and features work by undergraduate and graduate students from St. Louis college- and university-level art programs.
