The annual James M. Holobaugh Honors ceremony celebrates Washington University community members who advocate for and serve LGBTQIA communities and recognizes many forms of leadership. Thirteen people were honored this year.

Nancy Morrow-Howell, the Betty Bofinger Brown Distinguished Professor of Social Policy at the Brown School and director of the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging in the Institute for Public Health, is the recipient of the 2022 Maxwell A. Pollack Award for Contributions to Health Aging from the Gerontological Society of America.

Jennie H. Kwon, DO, an assistant professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, has received the 2022 Mid-Career Scholarship Award from the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.

Washington University recognized distinguished faculty, alumni and friends at the annual Founders Day celebration Nov. 5 at St. Louis Union Station Hotel.

Todd Braver, a professor of psychological and brain sciences in Arts & Sciences, received a $442,135 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study aging effects on the neural coding of proactive and reactive cognitive control.

The American Medical Informatics Association has elected three faculty members at Washington University School of Medicine — Joanna Abraham, Randi Foraker and Po-Yin Yen — fellows of the organization’s American College of Medical Informatics.

A $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation will support Shantanu Chakrabartty, at the McKelvey School of Engineering, as he works to develop GPS-free, encrypted self-powered communications.

Seven Washington University faculty members have been selected as Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award recipients.

Rita Parai, assistant professor of earth and planetary sciences in Arts & Sciences, won a $450,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration.

For the second time this year, Chenyang Lu, an internationally recognized leader in cyber-physical systems, has received recognition for a trailblazing paper. The award recognizes his 2010 paper on using wireless sensor networks in a hospital environment.
