Russell K. Osgood, visiting professor of law and interim dean of the School of Law, will continue as dean through spring 2024, announced Beverly Wendland, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. 

David S. Leonard, MD, an associate professor of otolaryngology, has been selected to lead the Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine.

At the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees meeting March 4, numerous faculty members were appointed or promoted with tenure or granted tenure, with most effective July 1.

The Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine has named pediatricians Jason Newland, MD, and Cassandra “Casey” M. Pruitt, MD, to the newly created roles of vice chair of community health and strategic planning, and vice chair of outpatient health, respectively.

Joseph P. Culver, the Sherwood Moore Professor of Radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at the School of Medicine, has been named director of the Biophotonics Research Center in the Division of Radiological Sciences. 

Women continue to be underrepresented in top jobs in America’s institutions of higher education, holding less than 40% of executive leadership roles. One notable exception is Washington University in St. Louis, where women comprise 89% of Chancellor Andrew D. Martin’s cabinet.

The Danforth Staff Council seeks new members. The council advocates for Danforth Campus staff members with university administrators. Nominations are open Monday, March 14, through April 1.

Lance Franklin, assistant vice president for environmental health and safety services at Virginia Tech, has been appointed assistant vice chancellor for environmental health and safety at Washington University in St. Louis, effective March 7, announced Shantay Bolton, executive vice chancellor for administration and chief administrative officer.

Kurt T. Dirks, vice chancellor for international affairs and director of the McDonnell International Scholars Academy at Washington University in St. Louis, has been appointed director of the George and Carol Bauer Leadership Center and senior adviser to the chancellor for leadership, effective July 1.

Sean Spinks, former director of academic success at Harris-Stowe State University, has been appointed director of the Danforth Scholars program at Washington University, according to Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs. Spinks, who began Feb. 1, is the program’s first full-time director.
