The Africa Initiative at Washington University in St. Louis recently awarded three pilot grants of $10,000 each to research projects that will help advance health and human development in Africa.

As university archivist, Sonya Rooney is charged with keeping track of the university’s institutional history as well as helping people find answers to their research questions.

Adia Harvey Wingfield, professor of sociology at Washington University in St. Louis, has joined the leadership team in Arts & Sciences as associate dean for faculty development. In her role as associate dean, Wingfield works closely with Barbara A. Schaal, dean of the faculty, in ongoing efforts to support faculty across Arts & Sciences.

A recently inked agreement between Washington University in St. Louis and Mekelle University in Ethiopia will encourage future collaborations in education, scholarship and research between the two universities.

The McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis recently welcomed the first cohort of students funded by a prestigious new grant from the China Scholarship Council. The three-year renewable program will enable up to six doctoral students per year to pursue research on projects in the areas of life sciences, energy and informatics involving collaborations between Washington University’s McKelvey School of Engineering and Xi’an Jiaotong University.

The newly launched Social Policy Institute and the McDonnell International Scholars Academy are seeking proposals for collaboration between Washington University researchers and researchers at international partner universities.

Stan Braude, professor of practice in biology, is a talented teacher who instills in his students the skills they need to prepare for life outside of Washington University. Take it from his students, though — because if you ask him, he will give all the credit to Joe (his St. Bernard).

On Oct. 3, 2019, Washington University in St. Louis Chancellor D. Martin delivered his inaugural address, “Momentum,” in Brookings Quadrangle before an audience of students, faculty, staff, alumni and delegates from universities across America, as well as local leaders in education, business and government.
