When Dana Gustafson Regan, BFA ’83, left Washington University, she was recruited to join Hallmark and create greeting cards. Since then, she’s written and illustrated more than 75 children’s books for publishers such as Random House, Penguin Books, Harper Collins, and Grosset & Dunlap. Her latest book, which she wrote, is about Mike a hedgehog who lives in the town of Happy Rivers. He makes deliveries but he also sometimes makes mistakes, such as delivering ants instead of pants or pigs instead of wigs! Mike always makes it right, and he teaches kids its okay to make mistakes. The book is for early readers. “I have always been fascinated by and focused on the moment when kids ‘crack the code’ and start reading,” says Regan. “I want to create funny rhyming stories to reward them for their efforts!”
