Participants in the Faculty Reach Out Program (FROP), held earlier this month at the School of Medicine, attended a two-day workshop that included meetings with faculty to discuss clinical and research interests, tours of research facilities and networking opportunities with other FROP participants. FROP was initiated to create a pathway to recruit women and underrepresented minorities for faculty appointments.

Construction of a new medical records customer-service office will begin the evening of Monday, April 21, in the Center for Advanced Medicine (CAM) lobby. The office — part of Barnes-Jewish Hospital — is relocating to CAM from the first floor of Shoenberg Pavilion as part of the Campus Renewal Project.

George A. Macones, MD, the Mitchell and Elaine Yanow Professor and head of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Jeffrey F. Peipert, MD, the Robert J. Terry Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, have been named deputy editors of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Chris Carpenter, MD, associate professor of emergency medicine, co-chaired the national Geriatric Emergency Department Guidelines Task Force, which created new recommendations intended to improve the care for older adults in emergency departments.

Washington University Medical Center is sharing a first look at its future landscape with renderings of the new Barnes-Jewish Hospital north campus tower and St. Louis Children’s Hospital expansion. The first phase of the Campus Renewal Project includes an expansion of Siteman Cancer Center, surgical programs, diagnostics and services for women and infants.

On March 28, renowned researchers from around the globe will gather in St. Louis to discuss maternal and child health and infections in animals that threaten humans. These topics will be highlighted at the second annual conference of the Washington University Center for Global Health and Infectious Disease.

Researchers at the School of Medicine have shown that providing women with free contraception does not increase the likelihood that they will have sex with multiple partners, as critics of the practice have suggested. Shown is the study’s first author, Gina Secura, PhD.

The Washington University Medical Center is undergoing the initial phases of a transformation that primarily will feature expansions of St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Siteman Cancer Center. It also will include more space for Washington University Physicians clinics and diagnostics and new facilities for women and infants, oncology and surgical services.
