Want to find out today’s specials at the medical school cafes? A website features daily menus for the Shell Café in the McDonnell Sciences Building, the Farrell Café in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center, and Café Expresso at the Orthopaedic Center in Chesterfield.

The Vandeventer Avenue exit from eastbound Interstate 64/Highway 40 will reopen about noon Friday, Aug. 8.

From July 21 through Sept. 23, McKinley Avenue between Taylor Avenue and the Olin Circle will be closed to pedestrians, vehicles and shuttle bus traffic. The closure will allow for installation of an underground tunnel to connect the School of Medicine’s Environmental Health and Safety building, currently under construction, with the Scott McKinley Research Building, also under construction.

The Shell Café in the McDonnell Sciences Building and the Farrell Café in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center on the School of Medicine campus will be closed June 27 and 30. The cafes will reopen July 1 under new management.

New Interstate 64/Highway 40 interchanges that include an exit at Tower Grove Avenue to access the Washington University Medical Center and a new ramp from Boyle Avenue onto westbound I-64/40 have been delayed until mid-July.

Parkview Place will close July 7 for up to 24 months due to construction of the new north campus tower on the old Jewish Hospital site. Patients receiving care in the Center for Advanced Medicine will not be able to use Parkview to access the CAM and the North Garage.

Daniel Blash and Denise DeCou, diversity and inclusion leaders at the School of Medicine, are on a mission to create a work environment that includes and nurtures people from all backgrounds. Their assignment is to reach 50 percent of the medical school workforce by June.

Some hospitals facing financial penalties from Medicare for readmitting too many patients soon after discharge have said they are being unfairly penalized. Hospitals that treat a large number of patients with limited income and education are more likely to face such penalties.

Employee parking will begin shifting to the east at the Washington University Medical Center as construction continues for the Campus Renewal Project, the School of Medicine’s new research and environmental health/central services buildings and the CORTEX District.

Several offices in facilities management at the School of Medicine are consolidating services and business operations beginning May 5. They will be located on the first floor of Olin Residence Hall. Custodial services, facilities engineering and parking and transportation will merge in the newly named Facilities Integrated Service Center (FISC).
