Three doctoral candidates named Bouchet Fellows

Three WUSTL doctoral candidates were inducted into the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society at the annual Bouchet Conference on Diversity in Graduate Education April 19-20 at Yale University. The Bouchet Society, named for the first African American to earn a doctorate in the United States, recognizes outstanding scholarly achievement and promotes diversity and excellence in doctoral education and the professoriate.

Recognizing excellence in teaching

The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences recognized 15 teaching assistants for exemplary performance during an April 25 ceremony in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. Arts & Sciences departments and programs nominate outstanding teaching assistants for the annual award, which includes a $1,500 cash prize and certificate of recognition.

Arts & Sciences recognizes six alumni at awards dinner

Arts & Sciences recognized the achievements of six alumni during the 16th Annual Arts & Sciences Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony, held April 25 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Clayton, Mo. The school presented four Distinguished Alumni Awards, one Early Career Achievement Award, and one Dean’s Medal.

Six to receive honorary degrees at WUSTL’s 152nd Commencement

Washington University in St. Louis will award six honorary degrees during the university’s 152nd Commencement May 17. The ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. in Brookings Quadrangle. The recipients are Commencement speaker Cory A. Booker, Marilyn Fox, Martin L. Mathews, Juhani Pallasmaa, Peter Rosen, MD, and Howard Wood.

Gelberman, Wertsch to receive 2013 faculty achievement awards

Richard H. Gelberman, MD, a world-renowned expert in hand and wrist microsurgery, and James V. Wertsch, PhD, founding director of one of the most successful and innovative global scholarship programs in the world, will receive Washington University’s 2013 faculty achievement awards, Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton announced. They will receive their awards and give presentations of their scholarly work during a Dec. 7 program.

Graduate students recognize faculty mentors

The Graduate Student Senate recognized eight faculty with Outstanding Faculty Mentor Awards during its 14th annual awards ceremony, held April 10 in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. Six other faculty received special recognition for excellence in mentoring.
