WUPD holds its ‘Don’t be in the Dark’ safety program
On the first Monday after the end of daylight saving time, the Washington University Police Department holds its “Don’t be in the Dark” safety program. The program, in its 10th year, serves to educate students about safety tips while walking after dark.

University College in Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University in St. Louis are partnering with LaunchCode to offer a free 16-week basic coding class, called CS50x St. Louis, beginning Jan. 19, 2016.
Obituary: Robert Iversen, 39, third-year law student
Robert J. Iversen, a third-year student in the School of Law at Washington University in St. Louis, died recently. Iversen was 39. An accomplished and involved law student, Iversen was expected to earn a juris doctoris in May 2016.
Flags lowered to half-staff in memory of Oregon shooting victims
The U.S. and Washington University flags over Brookings Hall will be lowered to half-staff from the morning of Monday, Oct. 5, until sunset, Tuesday, Oct. 6, as a mark of respect for those killed in the Oct. 1 shooting at the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore.
Trustees meet, hear reports on endowment and major plans for the east end of campus
At its fall meeting Thursday and Friday, Oct. 1 and 2, the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees heard special reports on the university’s endowment and the plan to transform the east end of the Danforth Campus. The board also received a report from Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton that included updates on administrative appointments, admissions, athletics and construction.

The schedule of four debates — three presidential and one vice presidential — was announced Sept. 23 by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD).
University’s first staff ombudsperson named

mediation, conflict coaching and training, has been named to the new position of staff ombudsperson at Washington University in St. Louis, announced Henry S. Webber, executive vice chancellor for administration.
Emergency communication system to be tested
Washington University in St. Louis will test its emergency communication system, WUSTLAlerts, at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.
16. The test will take place unless there is the potential for severe
weather that day or some other emergency is occurring at that time.
Vice chancellor for finance, CFO search committee named
Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton has appointed an eight-member committee to identify candidates for the position of vice chancellor for finance and chief financial officer. Barbara A. Feiner announced her plans to retire Dec. 31 as vice chancellor for finance and CFO after 19 years at the university.
