Bear Balance Week begins March 28
The Health and Wellness Committee is hosting Bear Balance Week to celebrate and encourage fitness and nutrition. The inaugural week, March 28-April 1, includes free yoga, kickboxing and spinning.
UPDATE: Emergency siren test rescheduled for Thursday; tornado warning policy updated
Washington University will test its emergency siren systems at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, as part of a Missouri statewide tornado drill. The tests will take place unless there is the potential for severe weather that day or some other emergency is occurring at that time.
Trustees meet, hear updates on School of Medicine research
At the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees meeting March 3 and 4, the trustees heard presentations from School of Medicine faculty and received a report from Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton that included updates on administrative appointments, admissions, athletics, construction and diversity efforts.

Proposals being accepted for ‘Bring Your Own Idea’ faculty collaboration grants
If you are a Washington University in St. Louis faculty member with an interest in developing teaching or research collaborations with colleagues in other departments or schools, the “Bring Your Own Idea” program is offering a third round of grants to help forge such a connection.
Federal assistance available for flood losses
Individuals who suffered losses or damage from the severe storms and flooding that occurred between Dec. 23-Jan. 9 and live in one of the 33 counties included in the federal disaster declaration can apply for federal assistance.
Kolker promoted to associate vice chancellor, university architect
James Kolker has been promoted to associate vice chancellor and university architect at Washington University in St. Louis, effective Feb. 1, announced Henry S. Webber, executive vice chancellor for administration.
Danforth Staff Council members announced
The newest members of the inaugural Danforth Staff Council have been selected from a pool of more than 70 applicants who submitted applications late last year. The 10 members will join the 15 founding members of the council to form the inaugural cohort.
‘The Modern University’ focus of MLA Saturday Lecture Series
Issues that tap into the past, present and future of higher education and its impact on American society will be explored this month. The Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) Saturday Lecture Series begins Saturday, Feb. 6. It is sponsored by University College in Arts & Sciences.
Olin School dean search committee formed
Provost Holden Thorp has appointed a nine-member committee to identify candidates for the position of dean of the Olin Business School, Olin Dean Mahendra R. Gupta announced this month that he will conclude his deanship at the end of the academic year, June 30, 2016.
