Washington University’s 157th Commencement is 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, in Brookings Quadrangle. The university will award 3,319 degrees to 3,150 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The university also will bestow honorary degrees on five individuals, including former St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and Beyond Housing’s Chris Krehmeyer.
Five PhD students inducted as Bouchet fellows
Five PhD candidates at Washington University in St. Louis were inducted into the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society at the annual Bouchet Conference on Diversity and Graduate Education April 26-28 at Yale University.

Trustees meet, elect new board members and officers
At its spring meeting, held Friday, May 4, the Board of Trustees at Washington University in St. Louis elected five new members, re-elected three members and also elected officers, among other actions, according to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton.
Five to receive honorary degrees
Washington University in St. Louis will award five honorary degrees during its 157th Commencement May 18. During the ceremony, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Brookings Quadrangle on the Danforth Campus, the university will bestow academic degrees on approximately 3,000 members of the Class of 2018.
Foreign policy expert, scholar Anne-Marie Slaughter to deliver Commencement address
Anne-Marie Slaughter, a renowned foreign policy expert, scholar and former top State Department official, will give the Commencement address May 18 at Washington University in St. Louis, according to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton.

John Weller Hanley, former trustee of Washington University in St. Louis, died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was 96.
Obituary: Margaret Watkins, formerly of Olin Fellowship Program, 89
Margaret “Maggie” M. Watkins, former coordinator of the Olin Fellowship Program and assistant to the dean of the Graduate School at Washington University in St. Louis, died Feb. 22, 2018, at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock. She was 89.
University launches new required process for international travel
To help ensure the safety and well-being of Washington University in St. Louis community members traveling abroad, registration for university-related international travel will be required effective Thursday, March 15.
Trustees meet, hear from School of Medicine researchers
At the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees meeting held Thursday and Friday, March 1 and 2, the trustees heard presentations from researchers at the School of Medicine and received a report from Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton that included updates on admissions, athletics, construction, research and faculty honors and awards.
