John J. “Jack” Clancy, a lecturer in the Interdisciplinary Project in the Humanities in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died Oct. 28, 2019, surrounded by loved ones. He was 82.

Adia Harvey Wingfield, professor of sociology at Washington University in St. Louis, has joined the leadership team in Arts & Sciences as associate dean for faculty development. In her role as associate dean, Wingfield works closely with Barbara A. Schaal, dean of the faculty, in ongoing efforts to support faculty across Arts & Sciences.

Award-winning actor and St. Louis native John Goodman will be the keynote speaker for Washington University in St. Louis’ annual Founders Day celebration Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. Louis Union Station Hotel. During the event to celebrate the university’s founding in 1853, distinguished alumni, faculty and supporters are honored.

Mark Kamimura-Jimenez has been named associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion at Washington University in St. Louis. Kamimura-Jimenez, who is assistant vice chancellor of student affairs at Texas Christian University, will join Washington University Jan. 1.

Andrew D. Martin, who began his chancellorship June 1, 2019, will be inaugurated as the 15th chancellor of Washington University in St. Louis at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in Brookings Quadrangle. During his inaugural address, Martin will announce a new transformative university initiative focused on affordability and access.

At the Arts & Sciences faculty welcome reception held Sept. 10 in Holmes Lounge, Dean Barbara A. Schaal presented the annual Arts & Sciences faculty awards for excellence in teaching and service. Awards were presented to Elizabeth Borgwardt, Stan Braude, Adrienne Davis, Steve Fazzari and Lerone Martin.

Chancellor Andrew D. Martin and Interim Provost Marion Crain have appointed a 16-member committee to identify candidates for the position of dean of the faculty of Arts & Sciences. Aaron F. Bobick, dean of the McKelvey School of Engineering, will chair the search committee.

Arts & Sciences presented Outstanding Staff Awards to Robert Chien, Rachel Dunaway and Sue McKinney and the Dean’s Award to Henry S. Webber in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to the effectiveness of teaching, advising, counseling and research in Arts & Sciences.

Emily Almas, associate dean and director of recruitment at Swarthmore College, has been appointed assistant vice provost and director of admissions at Washington University in St. Louis, announced Ronné Turner, vice provost for admissions and financial aid.

Washington University’s 158th Commencement ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May, 17, in Brookings Quadrangle, where more than 12,000 family, friends, professors, staff, administrators and trustees will gather to recognize the achievements of the Class of 2019. Michael R. Bloomberg, 108th mayor of New York City and founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies, will deliver the Commencement address.
