Library launches 26th annual Neureuther competition ​

The book collection essay competition sponsored by Washington University Libraries is celebrating its 26th year this winter, offering four cash prizes to students who submit short essays about their personal book collections. The entry deadline for the 2013 contest has been set for Thursday, Feb. 28.

Nominations sought for Ethic of Service award

Nominations now are being accepted for the annual Gerry & Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award, which honors members of the WUSTL community who exemplify a character of service and giving to the St. Louis region.

Trustees meet, discuss university’s future in changing environment

At the December meeting of the Washington University Board of Trustees Dec. 6 and 7, trustees discussed the future of Washington University and the challenges it faces, according to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. The board also elected a new trustee, William P. Wiesmann, president, CEO and founder of BioSTAR Group of Germantown, Md.

Police department offers free vehicle inspections

On Saturday, Dec. 8, from noon to 2:30 p.m., the Washington University Police Department and Parking Services, in partnership with Hartmann’s Towing, will once again sponsor a free traveler’s vehicle inspection service to students, faculty and staff.

Annual ‘Report to Neighbors’ held Nov. 26

The annual “Report to the Neighbors” meeting was held Nov. 26 in Whitaker Hall. The event is held to help keep those living in neighborhoods surrounding WUSTL informed on university happenings and also to give neighbors a forum to voice comments and concerns to a panel of university administrators. Social Change Grant showcase to be held Dec. 5

A showcase featuring three student projects selected by the Community Service Office to receive Social Change grants last summer will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Danforth University Center, Room 234.

Nominations sought for Civic Scholars Program; info sessions Nov. 27, 29

The Gephardt Institute for Public Service is accepting nominations for the Civic Scholars Program, which recognizes undergraduate students who exemplify future potential for civic leadership. Information sessions for interested students are scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, and 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Gephardt Institute for Public Service in Danforth University Center, Room 340.

October Car-Free Month draws to a close

During October, more than 180 faculty, students, and staff members participated in WUSTL’s second car-free challenge. Throughout the month, participants were encouraged to leave their cars in the garage and go “car-free” by using public transit, walking, biking, and carpooling.
