An ongoing experiment — an “architectural twin study” — conducted by students, faculty and staff at Washington University on two 100-year-old St. Louis brick buildings produced some remarkable results.

Cathy Rodgers, former fashion design faculty member in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, died April 6 at her home in Ladue. She was 87. She taught tailoring and pattern-making to generations of designers, including such fashion luminaries as Carolyne Roehm, Kay Unger, Judd Waddell and Paul Dillinger.

It has been 48 years since the passage of the Fair Housing Act, yet most American cities — St. Louis included — remain deeply segregated. Next fall, faculty from Washington University in St. Louis and Harris-Stowe State University will present “Segregation by Design,” an interdisciplinary seminar that examines the role of planning and design in fostering and maintaining segregation.

Heather Corcoran, director of the College and Graduate School of Art in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, has an exhibition on view through May 21 at COCA. It’s called “Reading Time Across Words and Numbers: Visualization Projects.”

Dancer and Choreographer Bill T. Jones will receive the 2016 International Humanities Prize from Washington University in St. Louis. Granted biennially, the prize honors the lifetime work of a noted scholar, writer or artist who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the world of letters or the arts.

Soul singer Donny Hathaway was a musical genius. He was also a man battling the ravages of schizophrenia. In “Twisted Melodies,” actor, playwright and St. Louis native Kelvin Roston Jr. explores Hathaway’s life and legacy while shattering taboos about the depiction of mental illness.

“Does it say what I want it to say?” The question is fundamental for any artist. On April 15, 16 and 17, five young choreographers will discover the answer when the Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis presents its biennial “Young Choreographers Showcase” in the Annelise Mertz Dance Theatre.
