This month, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum will present Window | Interface, an exhibition highlighting the use of windows and interfaces as both boundaries and sites of transaction between machine and mind, data and perception, the world of the body and the world of the imagination.

Peter Campus, *Prototype for Interface*Groundbreaking video artist Peter Campus will join curators Sabine Eckmann and Lutz Koepnick for a panel discussion relating to the exhibition Window | Interface at 6 p.m. Aug. 31. Co-curated by Eckmann and Koepnick and featuring works by Campus, the exhibition explores the ways in which electronic windows and interfaces — for example, video screens, computer monitors and cell phone displays — have come to structure the practice and experience of art today.

Desmond Lee Professor for Community Collaboration in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. The professorship is one of four established at Washington University since 1997 by St. Louis philanthropist E. Desmond Lee, a 1940 graduate of the John M. Olin School of Business. It is intended to recognize faculty who already have made, and will continue to make, important contributions to the mission of engaging the community.

Freund Teaching Fellows for academic years 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively. The Freund Fellowship consists of a yearlong residency in St. Louis, during which time fellows teach in the Sam Fox School’s Graduate School of Art and create exhibitions for the Saint Louis Art Museum’s Currents series.

David MarchantWashington University Dance TheatreFrom classic comedy to cutting-edge drama to original works by students and faculty artists, the Performing Arts Department (PAD) in Arts & Sciences’ 2007-08 season has something for everyone. “This year’s season presents a series of voyages to different times and different places,” says Robert Henke, Ph.D., chair and associate professor in the PAD. “We will travel to places as diverse as rural Kentucky, Nigeria, the world of radio during wartime America, the Renaissance city, 18th-century England and the different places of the imagination where dance takes us. Through theater and dance, we are able to see the world and ourselves in different ways.”

*The Great General Mighty Wing*Recent years have seen an explosion of interest in Japanese manga, or comic books, in the United States, yet Korean comics remain relatively unknown. This fall, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum will present Korean Comics: A Society through Small Frames, a rare U.S. exhibition of work from both North and South Korea. Organized and curated by The Korea Society, the exhibition provides a decade-by-decade glimpse of the evolving social realities in contemporary Korea, as depicted in comics ranging from popular children’s entertainment to aggressive forms of political commentary.

Interfaces represent the points of contact between different systems, spaces and entities — for example, the screen, the mouse or the keyboard that connects the computer with the human user. Jeffrey MarlowJeffrey J. Marlow, a senior in Arts & Sciences, is one of 20 students nationwide named to the 2007 All-USA College Academic First Team, USA Today’s recognition program for outstanding undergraduates. Two other Washington University students were named to the third team and one student received honorable mention, resulting in WUSTL tying with the University of Alabama for the most students selected in the newspaper’s competition.
