On Feb. 15 the brothers will join forces with Gulf Coast all-stars Louisiana Blues Throwdown for “Sacred Funk,” a special one-night-only concert of Sacred Steel gospel and New Orleans-style funk and soul.

All three events come in conjunction with two new exhibitions: On the Margins, which explores the impact of war and disaster on a range of contemporary artists; and Thaddeus Strode: Absolutes and Nothings, which features more than two dozen large-scale paintings by the acclaimed Los Angeles painter.

Jane Maienschein, the Regents’ Professor and Chair of the Program for Science and Society at Arizona State University, will speak on “From Transplantation to Translation: Why History Matters in Stem Cell Research” at 4 p.m. Feb. 5 in Rebstock Hall, Room 322. Maienschein is the first of six speakers appearing this spring as part of the Center for the Humanities’ 2008 Faculty Fellows’ Lecture and Workshop Series. In addition, Maienschein will lead a workshop titled “Embryos in Context” at 12 p. m. Feb. 6.

Last week Weitman, who retired as head of Photographic Services in 1994, returned to campus for the opening of a new exhibition showcasing more than three dozen photographs spanning the length and breadth of his career.

Beginning February 8, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum will present “On the Margins,” an exhibition exploring the impact of war and disaster through the work of a diverse range of contemporary artists. Curated by Dean Carmon Colangelo, the exhibition will showcase more than a dozen works, ranging from prints and photographs to video and large-scale installations, by ten artists from around the world.
