Gephardt Institute names faculty scholars in community-based teaching and learning
The Gephardt Institute for Public Service at Washington University in St. Louis has announced faculty scholars receiving Innovation Grants for Community-Based Teaching and Learning. The grants provide faculty members with financial support for curriculum development and implementation.
Hall of Fame weekend

The No. 3 men’s tennis team defeated NCAA
Division II No. 19 Drury University 5-4 Feb. 12 at the Creve Coeur
Racquet Club in Creve Coeur, Mo. The victory over Drury was the Bears
first in four tries under head coach Roger Follmer. Updates also included on men’s and women’s basketball and track & field.
Day of reflection; evening of song
Hundreds braved an arctic chill the evening of Feb. 10 to experience the warmth generated by Parker Palmer, best-selling author and educator, who teamed up with singer/songwriter Carrie Newcomer inside Graham Chapel to deliver a unique message of delivering democracy with an open heart. The event was the opening of the spring 2011 Assembly Series.
‘Lest We Forget’
Members of WU Style Step perform a rally scene during Black Anthology in Edison Theatre. Now in its 22nd year, the annual student-run production educates people about African-American culture and highlights important issues. This year’s production, “Lest We Forget,” focused on the tumultuous 1960s.
Sports update Feb. 6: Men’s basketball picks up big win at Emory
The No. 25 men’s basketball team snapped No. 17 Emory University’s 17-game home winning streak with a 92-83 victory Feb. 5 in Atlanta. The
victory enabled WUSTL, who lost Feb. 3 at the University of Rochester,
to remain in a tie for first place in the University Athletic
Association standings with New York University. Updates also included on women’s basketball, track and field and men’s tennis.

Because of an all-day, collaborative staff retreat on Friday, Feb. 3, involving both Public Affairs and Medical Public Affairs staffs, there will be no Record email on Monday, Feb. 5. The Record website, record.wustl.edu, will continue to be updated as needed. The Record email will return Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Assembly Series spring 2012: The need to connect
The spring 2012 Assembly Series begins Friday, Feb. 10, with acclaimed author and educator Parker Palmer, PhD. An underlying theme for many of the speakers this semester is the inherent human need to connect mind and body with heart and soul, whether it be through music, humor, creativity or fun.
Sports update Jan. 30: Men’s basketball in first place in UAA
Men’s basketball picked up two big wins over the University of Rochester and Emory University and gained first place in University Athletic Association standings. Updates also included on women’s basketball, track and field, and women’s soccer team fundraiser.
Clear talk on climate change
Ralph J. Cicerone, PhD, president of the National Academy of Sciences, speaks about climate change at WUSTL Jan. 23, meticulously presenting the most current data on climate change. The talk, the first in a series on climate change, was sponsored by I-CARES and the Tyson Research Center, which plan to continue to enage the WUSTL community in an ongoing conversation about climate change.
