Milligan named associate provost
Michelle L. Milligan, EdD, has been promoted to associate provost, effective July 1, announced Edward S. Macias, PhD, provost, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and the Barbara and David Thomas Distinguished Professor in Arts & Sciences.
A tribute to Owen Sexton
Friends and colleagues of Owen Sexton, PhD (right), professor emeritus of biology in Arts & Sciences and former director of Tyson Research Center, joined him June 17 at the facility to thank him for his mentorship and for advocating the purchase of the research center, WUSTL’s 2,000-acre field station in the Ozark foothills 20 miles outside of St. Louis.
Brookings Institution, WUSTL collaboration grants available
The Brookings Institution and Washington University’s Academic Venture Fund (AVF) is seeking proposals from fellows, faculty, staff, centers, institutes and programs.

Getting to the party
Coach Roger Follmer has been at the helm of WUSTL men’s tennis for nine seasons, and he and his players continue to pick up honors and accolades. The program is one of the elite in NCAA Divison III because Follmer helps his athletes find the right balance of academic success and athletics.
Regulators need more funding to enforce finance reform
The U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representative are working toward a final version of the financial reform bill, which is expected be on the desk of President Barack Obama by July 4. Securities law expert Hillary A. Sale, JD, professor of law at Washington University in St. Louis, says that is coming at a good time for the Securities & Exchange Commission.

‘Help save the world,’ Chu tells graduates
In a stirring address to Class of 2010 at Washington University’s 149th Commencement ceremony, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu says a second industrial revolution is needed to provide for the world’s future energy needs and urges graduates to “do something that matters and help save the world.”
