Spreading holiday cheer
The student group Stand United for Veterans at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis hosted the annual Toys for Tots campaign on campus this year. The group held a final drive for toys and a cookie reception Dec. 15 to thank the United States Marine Corps Reservists who work tirelessly every holiday season to help underprivileged youth have toys during the holidays.

WUSTL student wins National Law Review writing contest
The National Law Review has named Heejung Park, a master of laws student at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, a winner of its student writing contest. Park, who is from Korea, is studying U.S. law.
Nearly half of all elderly Americans will experience poverty
Nearly half of all Americans between the ages of 60 and 90 will encounter at least one year of poverty or near poverty, says a recent study by Mark R. Rank, PhD, professor at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. The findings are published in the current issue of Families in Society: The Journal of Contemporary Social Services.
