Colonna, Ley elected to National Academy of Sciences
Marco Colonna, MD, the Robert Rock Belliveau, MD, Professor of Pathology (left), and Timothy J. Ley, MD, the Lewis T. and Rosalind B. Apple Chair in Oncology, both at the School of Medicine, have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences. The new members were announced April 30.
University Libraries awards NEXT funding
Washington University Libraries has awarded the second annual Newman Exploration Travel Fund (NEXT) scholarships and grants to seven people, including faculty, staff and students.
Perlmutter named scientific director of dystonia foundation
Joel S. Perlmutter, MD, the Elliot H. Stein Family Professor of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named scientific director of the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation. Dystonia is a neurological disorder that causes excessive, involuntary muscle contractions and abnormal postures.
Neureuther essay contest winners announced
University Libraries announced the winners of its annual Neureuther Student Book Collection Essay Competition. The competition encourages students to read for enjoyment and to develop personal libraries throughout their lives.
Carpenter named to emergency medicine board
Christopher R. Carpenter, MD, professor of emergency medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been elected to the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Board of Directors. The board establishes SAEM’s mission, purpose, values and direction.
Wright recognized by orthopedic surgery organization
Rick W. Wright, MD, the Jerome J. Gilden Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the 2019 Kappa Delta Ann Doner Vaughn Award from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Jolly named vice chair for Missouri Foundation for Health
Andwele Jolly, a business director at Washington University School of Medicine, has been named vice chairperson for the Missouri Foundation for Health. Jolly will serve as the vice chairperson for the foundation’s Board of Directors’ Executive Committee.
Parking and Transportation announces parking permit rates
Washington University announced parking permit pricing for the 2019-20 academic year. In the coming weeks, a series of town halls also will be held to provide updates and answer questions from the campus community.
Washington University commits $100 million to MD scholarships, education
The Washington University School of Medicine will provide $100 million in scholarship funding, allowing as many as half of its medical students to attend tuition-free and providing others with partial support. Efforts to enhance the medical education program also will benefit.
Edelson, White, Yau receive Goldstein awards
The Samuel R. Goldstein Leadership Awards in Medical Student Education recognize outstanding teaching and commitment to medical education. This year’s recipients are Brian Edelson, MD, PhD, Andrew J. White, MD, and Timothy Yau, MD.
