The U.S. and university flags over Brookings Hall are lowered to half-staff until sunset Saturday, March 27, as a mark of respect for those killed in the shooting March 22 in Boulder, Colo.

Schools and departments on the Danforth Campus are invited to submit a second round of proposals to hire faculty members whose research area focuses on race and ethnicity, the Office of the Provost announced. The deadline is May 1.

Washington University recently received the Regional Sustainability Award from the St. Louis commuter ride-share program RideFinders. The award recognizes organizations that exemplify a commitment to improving air quality by partnering with RideFinders and promoting sustainable commuting options for employees.

The MyDay program, the multiyear effort to modernize how the university collects, manages and analyzes the data it needs, reached a key milestone early this year. Farshid Guilak, the Mildred B. Simon Research Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and co-director of the Washington University Center of Regenerative Medicine, has received the 2021 Elizabeth Winston Lanier Kappa Delta Award for his research involving the treatment of arthritic joints.

Michael Wysession, professor of earth and planetary sciences in Arts & Sciences, was recently named the winner of the 2021 Geosciences in the Media Award of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The honor recognizes Wysession’s many achievements in promoting geoscience literacy and education.

The Big Ideas 2021-2022 competition is open. The program provides opportunities for collaborative teams to develop innovations in informatics and health-care delivery The deadline to submit a letter of intent is March 29.

Washington University in St. Louis will be holding multiple Commencement ceremonies on May 20, 21 and 30 and seeks staff volunteers to help them run smoothly. The university will take safety precautions and follow government guidelines to ensure safety for volunteers, graduates and guests.
