Take Steps for Kids is holding its annual charity run – with 5K and 1-mile options – this weekend. Take Steps for Kids is a WUSTL student-run organization. The family-friendly event on the Danforth  Campus benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, a youth mentoring organization. Activities begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Brookings Quadrangle. 

Nine new faculty members have joined the WUSTL School of Engineering & Applied Science this academic year. That marks the largest number of newly recruited faculty ever to join the school. The new faculty members’ expertise ranges from biomedical to electrical, and energy to mechanical engineering. Read more to learn about their backgrounds and what they each of them brings to the Engineering School.

“SPIN-IT: A Leadership Program for Women in IT” is accepting applications. The new program aims to encourage and support women, both staff members and students, pursuing careers in information technology. The deadline for staff members to apply is Friday, March 15; the deadline for student applications is March 22.

Student athlete Tim Cooney grew up in St. Louis and rarely had a place where his friends could gather and play a pickup game of basketball. Cooney, a junior guard on the WUSTL men’s basketball team, is trying to change that for future generations.

Peter G. Sortino, WUSTL assistant vice chancellor, is being inducted into the Missouri Recreation and Parks Hall of Fame. This year he is coordinating the effort to pass Proposition P to fund improvements to area parks and the Arch grounds.

New faculty members have joined the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.

Several new faculty members have joined the Olin Business School. Their expertise covers various areas, such as accounting, communications, finance and marketing.

Jewish families in the WUSTL community are encouraged to consider hosting a student for Passover. St. Louis Hillel seeks families to open their homes and share a warm, home-away-from-home Passover experience with students. To participate, hosts and students must register by March 20.

The WUSTL Code of Conduct governs members of the university community: employees, volunteers and those who do business with the university. The code spells out the ethical and legal standards that must guide community members’ decisions and actions.

An undergraduate student at WUSTL helped create and launch a mobile app that helps students track the campus circulator shuttle. It’s called the “WUSTL Circulator,” and on its first day, it had up to four times as many downloads as typical new university apps.
