The Office of Recreation Programs and Services will hold two focus groups next week of current and retired faculty and staff to discuss membership pricing in the Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center. Sessions will be from 5:15-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, and from 12:15-1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, in the Athletics Complex.

The Washington University Choirs will host open auditions today through Monday, Jan. 25, for the 2016 Chancellor’s Concert. Presented by the Department of Music in Arts & Sciences, the Chancellor’s Concert is among the university’s largest annual events.

The Harvey Media Center in the Danforth University Center will hold an open house from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, for students, faculty and staff to learn more about the resources available there.

Bears basketball Staff/Faculty and Family Day will be Saturday, Jan. 9, against the University of Chicago. The No. 11-ranked women’s team tips off at 1 p.m. at the Field House, followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m. Admission is free.

A town hall meeting will be held to discuss the TAMPITI trial and the importance of research in emergency medicine. The meeting is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, in the North Building’s Moore Auditorium on the Medical Campus.

Six members of the Washington University in St. Louis faculty have been honored with 2015 Emerson Electric Co. “Excellence in Teaching” awards.

The brains of children who suffer clinical depression as preschoolers develop abnormally, compared with the brains of preschoolers unaffected by the disorder, according to university researchers. Their gray matter is lower in volume and thinner in the cortex, a part of the brain important in the processing of emotions.

Adjunct faculty members at Washington University in St. Louis and the Student Worker Alliance are holding a food drive Nov. 13 to benefit the Gateway 180 shelter and the St. Patrick Center. Canned goods and fruits and vegetables that will keep, such as apples and potatoes, are welcome, along with personal care items. Donations may be dropped off in the Brookings Hall archway between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13.
