New Office of Scholar Programs opens in Women’s Building

Three of Washington University in St. Louis’ premier scholar programs — the Ervin Scholars, the Annika Rodriguez Scholars and the Danforth Scholars — are now part of the new Office of Scholar Programs. The office will provide scholar students a space in the Women’s Building to meet and collaborate.

WUVets, a veterans group at Washington University in St. Louis, was named Chapter of the Year by the Student Veterans of America (SVA), a national organization that provides resources and scholarships to college veterans. WUVets leaders James Petersen and Jennifer Goetz, both students at the Brown School, accepted the award at the SVA National Conference in California.

A passionate advocate for college access, Leah Merrifield will receive the 2017 Rosa L. Parks Award at Washington University in St. Louis’ Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, in Graham Chapel. Merrifield helped launch the university’s innovative College Prep Program.

Stephens appointed university librarian

Denise Stephens, university librarian at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has been appointed university librarian at Washington University in St. Louis, effective July 1, according to Provost Holden Thorp. Stephens succeeds Jeffrey G. Trzeciak, who left the university last July.
