500 girls explore STEM careers at Washington University
About 500 seventh-grade girls from across the state visited Washington University in St. Louis to learn about careers in STEM. Barbara Schaal, dean of the faculty of Arts & Sciences, told students that STEM careers are as diverse as they are rewarding: “What STEM education does is give you a cafeteria of options and opportunities.”
Emergency Support Team recognized
The Washington University Emergency Support Team is one of five university teams nationwide to be named an EMS Ready Campus by the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation. The designation recognizes excellence in emergency management and disaster preparedness.
FOCUS St. Louis selects university members for leadership programs
Four members of the Washington University in St. Louis community have been selected to participate in FOCUS St. Louis leadership programs. Brown School students Hannah Dubreville and Cory Schmitt will participate in the Emerging Leaders program, while Jennifer Thomas, sustainability coordinator, and Emily Underwood, a 2002 alumna, were chosen for the Coro Women In Leadership program.

In response to the federal government’s to controversial immigration ban, Washington University in St. Louis sophomore Jordan Gonen launched the site CelebrateImmigrants.us, an inventory of immigrant business founders from Irish immigrant James Gamble of Procter & Gamble to South African-born Elon Musk of Tesla.
Invigorated Supplier Diversity Initiative strengthens minority-owned businesses, St. Louis region
Stephanie Smith, director of supplier diversity, says the Supplier Diversity Initiative is preparing minority business enterprises and women business enterprises to work at Washington University. “I knew that if I could make a difference for the businesses, I could make a difference for the community,” Smith said. “This work matters now more than ever as we, as a region, strive for racial equity.”
University joins Raise.me
Washington University in St. Louis has joined Raise.me, an innovative program that rewards low-income high school students for good grades, community service and leadership with scholarship dollars — up to $10,000 a year.
