Olin Library at Washington University in St. Louis will unveil two highly anticipated features on Tuesday, Jan. 16 — an improved Whispers Café and new study spaces in the Newman Tower of Collections and Exploration. And, for the first time, both the library’s south and north entrances will be open, making it easier to use.

Kyle Williams, assistant director of student conduct and community standards at Washington University in St. Louis, will receive the 2018 Otterbein University Diversity Award on Feb. 9 in Westerville, Ohio.

James Clark, vice president of community outreach for Better Family Life, will receive the Rosa L. Parks Award at Washington University in St. Louis’ annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, in Graham Chapel. Brian D. Smedley of the National Collaborative for Health Equity will speak at the School of Medicine at 4 p.m. that day.

Edward Tjaden, a third-year student at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, has been awarded a Veterans of Foreign Wars-Student Veterans of America Legislative Fellowship, a semester-long academic experience.

Washington University in St. Louis Cadet Cormac O’Halloran, a senior majoring in political science in Arts & Sciences, was named as one of the top Army Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets in the nation.

Washington University Police Department patrol officer Don Moore is inviting the campus community to support Tamara Collier and her two young children this holiday season. Collier was paralyzed from the neck down when a bullet meant for police hit her.

Washington University in St. Louis senior Cole Warner makes a killer cookie. Warner’s recipe for pumpkin-white chocolate chip snickerdoodles bested about 80 recipes to win the Judges’ Pick award for the annual St. Louis Post-Dispatch Cookie Contest.

Deneb Stars is providing community and support to low-income students. It’s a segment of the population that often reports feeling left out on a campus where students wear Canada Goose parkas and vacation abroad during breaks.

Since founding Student Organ Donation Advocates, senior Sara Miller has trained 50 volunteers and hosted 30 events including registration drives, conversations with bioethicists, and panels with medical researchers and with donors. But this fall, she welcomed a very special organ recipient — the schoolteacher who received her big sister’s liver.
