Washington University in St. Louis faculty and staff are being encouraged to contribute to Our Washington, the employee component of Leading Together: The Campaign for Washington University.

The St. Louis Walk of Fame will posthumously induct Nobel Prize-winning neurobiologist Rita Levi-Montalcini at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 6, on the Delmar Loop. Levi-Montalcini conducted much of her research at Washington University in St. Louis and is recognized for breakthroughs in the study of cell growth and development. She died at the age of 103 in her native Italy.

Washington University in St. Louis has launched a new interactive campus map that will help users find accessible parking, where to buy coffee and other points of interest. The map, available through the university’s website, will provide up-to-the-minute information about construction zones and parking changes.

Washington University in St. Louis has been named a “Voter Friendly Campus” for its success in preparing students to participate in the democratic process.

The African Film Festival returns to campus March 31-April 2. Screenings are free and will be in Brown Hall. The festival sets time aside Saturday for its special “Eye on Youth” programming.

About 500 seventh-grade girls from across the state visited Washington University in St. Louis to learn about careers in STEM. Barbara Schaal, dean of the faculty of Arts & Sciences, told students that STEM careers are as diverse as they are rewarding: “What STEM education does is give you a cafeteria of options and opportunities.”

The Washington University Emergency Support Team is one of five university teams nationwide to be named an EMS Ready Campus by the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation. The designation recognizes excellence in emergency management and disaster preparedness.

Four members of the Washington University in St. Louis community have been selected to participate in FOCUS St. Louis leadership programs. Brown School students Hannah Dubreville and Cory Schmitt will participate in the Emerging Leaders program, while Jennifer Thomas, sustainability coordinator, and Emily Underwood, a 2002 alumna, were chosen for the Coro Women In Leadership program.

The St. Louis American Foundation will honor Andwele Jolly and Frank Wilson of Washington University in St. Louis at its seventh annual Salute to Young Leaders Awards Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Pattonville School District elementary students made statistically significant gains in science after completing the innovative MySci curriculum developed by the Institute for School Partnership. The data confirm what ISP Executive Director Victoria May has observed for years in MySci classrooms across the region — hands-on inquiry paired with teacher development and smart assessment tools can boost student success.
