Washington University in St. Louis invites talented high school sophomores from rural communities in Missouri and southern Illinois to apply to the WashU Rural Scholars Academy, a free summer program that will strengthen academic and leadership skills, demystify the college application process and introduce students to Washington University, a global leader in teaching and research. 

Evelyn Ngugi, aka “Evelyn From the Internets,” has been posting her hilarious and heartfelt videos for almost a decade. She will give a talk Thursday, Nov. 3, on the Danforth Campus.

When Chancellor Andrew Martin told Anna Gonzalez, the newly named vice chancellor for student affairs and self-proclaimed foodie, that St. Louis boasted a world-class food scene, Gonzalez had her doubts. Two years later, she is happy to say the chancellor was right. Together they have launched the food blog, “Good Eats with Chancellor Martin & Dr. G,” which will showcase great local restaurants.

The Pivot 314 Fellowship Program for graduate and professional students is accepting applications for its latest cohort. The application deadline is Nov. 14.

Martin for the discussion “Educating for Democracy in a Time of Division,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28. The conversation is one of 16 virtual and in-person events planned for Civic Action Week, an initiative of the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement.

Connecting students to good jobs takes more than career fairs and resumes, says Rebekah Paré, the new associate vice chancellor for career development and education at Washington University in St. Louis. Career education is an all-hands-on-deck endeavor that requires faculty support, alumni mentors and expert advisers, she said.

Washington University in St. Louis spends $28 million in summer stipends and wages to prepare students for future careers, strengthen the St. Louis region and fuel the local economy.

Washington University in St. Louis has partnered with Handshake, a career management platform, to better help students and alumni discover new career paths and find jobs and internships. Handshake replaces CAREERlink.
