In an effort to reduce food waste, two student groups have joined forces to distribute healthy, fresh food to local shelters and food banks.

In an effort to better support employees and spur investment in historically disinvested neighborhoods, BJC HealthCare and WashU are expanding their Live Near Your Work homeownership program to include new neighborhoods in St. Louis, north St. Louis County and University City’s Third Ward.

Junior Emma Lembke, founder of the internet safety organization Log Off, was invited to the White House Oct. 30 to observe President Joe Biden sign an executive order establishing new standards for artificial intelligence safety and security.

To University Libraries’ Cassie Brand, few texts are as spooky as “The Raven,” by Edgar Allan Poe. In celebration of Halloween, Brand shares how University Libraries saved its rare first edition of the Poe classic.

Last year, student-run emergency medicine organization EST responded to 400 calls, ranging from cuts to anaphylaxis to chest pain to panic attacks. The group’s 70 members also provide coverage crews for high-contact club sports, staff vaccine clinics and offer CPR training.

From dressing bullet wounds to analyzing biosolids to developing LGBTQ outreach plans for the Alzheimer’s community, St. Louis Fellows made many contributions to regional nonprofits this summer. The Gephardt Institute celebrated their efforts Oct. 18.

Organized by the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement, Civic Action Week runs Oct. 16-22. Events include the art exhibit “The Queer Experience: Joy as Resistance,” a panel about labor rights and a WashU Votes happy hour for graduate students.

The Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement invites WashU undergraduate and graduate students to apply for grants from the St. Louis Impact Fund, a new program that aims to connect students to community partners across the St. Louis.

The Washington University in St. Louis community is encouraged to donate to, and volunteer with, the 2023 United Way of Greater St. Louis annual campaign. Launching this week, the campaign will raise funds to support over 160 local nonprofits and more than 1 million people in the 16-county region.
