The George Warren Brown School of Social Work’s 13th annual International Festival begins on March 28 with a forum called “Prospects and Challenges of Integrating Immigrants and Refugees into the St. Louis Community,” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Brown Hall Lounge.

Robert L.E. Egger, founder and president of the non-profit culinary arts job-training program D.C. Central Kitchen, will speak on “Using Punk Rock and Leftover Food to Change the World” at 4:30 p.m. March 27 in Room 132 of Goldfarb Hall.

Kathleen Clark, J.D., professor of law, has been elected to the American Law Institute.

Diabetes is hard on the heart — adults with diabetes die from heart disease about two to four times more often than those without diabetes. And scientific evidence has suggested that blood fat levels are a source of this problem. Now a clinical study at the School of Medicine is investigating the link between blood fat and heart health.

Faculty and students in the School of Law’s Civil Rights and Community Justice Clinic earned a nationally significant victory March 12 when St. Louis County Circuit Judge Barbara W. Wallace voided two City of Valley Park ordinances aimed at immigrants.

Nancy and Kenneth Kranzberg received the eighth annual Jane and Whitney Harris St. Louis Community Service Award at a Feb. 20 ceremony at Harbison House. Their prize, a $50,000 cash gift, will be distributed to six non-profit organizations.

Costas Azariadis, Ph.D., professor of economics in Arts & Sciences, has been named an Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor. A formal installation ceremony was held Feb. 1 in Holmes Lounge.

The women’s basketball team (25-6) wrapped up its season with a 55-52 loss to DePauw University March 17 in the NCAA Division III national championship game. The No. 8 men’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four for the first time in school history and came away with a third-place finish.
