Kents’ generosity leads to undergraduate Olin scholarships

Beginning in the 2008-09 academic year, the Jerry and Judy Kent Scholarships will be awarded to approximately five freshmen each year for the next seven years, and they will remain Kent Scholars for four years in Olin’s BSBA program.

Genetic region linked to a five times higher lung cancer risk

A narrow region on chromosome 15 contains genetic variations strongly associated with familial lung cancer, says a study conducted by scientists at the School of Medicine and other institutions. The researchers found a more than five times higher risk of lung cancer for people who have both a family history of the disease and these genetic variations. The risk was not affected by whether the study participants smoked or didn’t smoke.

Political satirist Mo Rocca opens Assembly Series

The Washington University Assembly Series will open its fall 2008 season with political satirist Mo Rocca, whose mix of clever insights and silly opinions puts the fun in “fundit.” The event will be on Wednesday, September 10 at 4 p.m. in Graham Chapel.
