Guy Genin, an internationally renowned expert in mechanobiology, was installed as the Harold and Kathleen Faught Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis on Feb. 12.

When is the last time a stereotype popped into your mind? If you are like most people, the authors included, it happens all the time. That doesn’t make you a racist, sexist, or whatever-ist. It just means your brain is working properly, noticing patterns, and making generalizations.

II “Two” Luscri has been appointed managing director of the Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship and assistant vice provost for innovation and entrepreneurship at Washington University. He returns to St. Louis from Villanova University, where he serves as executive director of the Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Institute.

Gary Patti has been named the Michael and Tana Powell Associate Professor of Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis. He was installed Dec. 1 in a ceremony in the Laboratory Sciences building.

Clinical psychologist and author Meg Jay will be the keynote speaker for Washington University’s fourth annual Day of Discovery & Dialogue. Jay’s talk, “The Untold Story of Adversity and Resilience,” will take place Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Medical Campus. Registration is strongly encouraged.

The Washington University in St. Louis community will convene Feb. 13-14 for the fourth annual Day of Discovery & Dialogue event. This year’s theme is “We’ve Got to Find a Way: Staying Resilient in Challenging Times.”

Vijay Ramani has been named the inaugural Roma B. and Raymond H. Wittcoff Distinguished University Professor of Environment and Energy at Washington University in St. Louis. He was installed Sept. 13 in a ceremony at the Charles F. Knight Executive Education & Conference Center.

Washington University is beginning a search for the next director of its Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a position that will be vacated when current director Emre Toker leaves the university at the end of the year.

Among the leaders expressing their concern about the proposed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is Mark S. Wrighton, chancellor of Washington University, who has written on behalf of the university to the 15 members of U.S. Congress representing Missouri and neighboring Illinois to urge them to work against several sections of the bill that would have a negative impact on students and their families, as well as university employees.

A $10 million commitment from Andrew Taylor, a life trustee at Washington University, and his wife, Barbara, will establish the Taylor Family Scholarship Challenge, which will match all new and increased gifts for undergraduate scholarships received by the conclusion of Leading Together: The Campaign for Washington University on June 30, 2018, as well as pledges to be paid by June 30, 2023.
