Robert M. Feibel, MD, has been named director of the Center for History Of Medicine of Washington University. The center is housed in the Bernard Becker Medical Library at the School of Medicine.

Six researchers at Washington University are being honored as outstanding scientists by the Academy of Science-St. Louis. University recipients are faculty members Ralph Quatrano, Jennifer K. Lodge, Samuel Achilefu, Charles M. Hohenberg, Gautam Dantas and Steven Teitelbaum (right), who received a lifetime achievement award.

Match Day, when medical students across the country find out where they will head for their residency programs, was March 20. At the School of Medicine, more than 120 students gathered for the delivery of envelopes that contained news of where the soon-to-be graduates had matched. Stuart C. Sweet, MD, PhD, an international leader in pediatric lung transplantation, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the United Network for Organ Sharing/Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network.

The School of Medicine’s KL2 Career Development Awards Program has selected its newest scholars. The training program promotes the career development of future clinical investigators.

Solar panels are being installed on the rooftop of the building at 4488 Forest Park Ave. on the Medical Campus. The building houses the Washington University Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and Forest Park Pediatrics.

To highlight a few of the many African-Americans leading the way in science, a series of posters highlighting African-Americans in science and technology is being displayed on the Medical School and Danforth campuses from March 4-April 17.

Mark J. Manary, MD, of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been awarded one of three research grants from the Sackler Institute for Nutrition Science at the New York Academy of Sciences.

School of Medicine faculty members were honored with Distinguished Faculty Awards on Wednesday, Feb. 18, for their dedication, talent and wide-ranging achievements. Shown is D. Honored for their contributions to Washington University School of Medicine, the recipients of the 2014 2nd Century Awards were F. Sessions Cole, MD, Scott J. Hultgren, PhD, and Carol B. Loeb. The 2nd Century Awards recognize those whose long-term commitment and participation have helped the school enter its second century with strength and confidence.
