Lisa Cristine Simone, 25, a doctoral candidate in the Program in Physical Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine, died unexpectedly Sept. 29, 2015, in St. Louis.

Maurizio Corbetta, MD, an internationally recognized neuroscientist and clinician at the School of Medicine, will receive the 2015 Outstanding Neurorehabilitation Clinician Scientist (ONCS) Award. The American Society of Neurorehabilitation (ASNR) Education Foundation Board selected Corbetta for the honor.

Through an elective rotation that began nearly 15 years ago, neurosurgery residents at the School of Medicine have an opportunity to see how complex neurosurgical procedures are performed in another country with a markedly different health-care system.

Matthew Mutch, MD, a nationally known clinician and educator in the laparoscopic treatment of colorectal cancer, has been named chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

But the more scientists are able to understand about them, the more effectively they will be able to use the immune system to fight cancer. To that end, researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have identified a new strategy.

Sam Bhayani, MD, has been appointed chief medical officer of the Faculty Practice Plan at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, effective Nov. 1. The university’s Faculty Practice Plan, known as Washington University Physicians, ranks among the five largest academic group practices in the United States.

David A. Hunstad, MD, associate professor of pediatrics, has been named director of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the School of Medicine. A School of Medicine graduate, Hunstad previously served as director of the pediatric infectious diseases fellowship program and co-founded the Pediatric Physician-Scientist Training Program

Scott Frey, PhD, has been named associate director of the Program in Occupational Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine and head of its Rehabilitation and Participation Science (RAPS) PhD program.

Timothy Blair Burnight, 28, a doctoral candidate in the Program in Physical Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine, died unexpectedly Sept. 4, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
