Medical research building’s skeleton complete

A six-story concrete and steel structure that will be the skeleton of an energy-efficient, multidisciplinary research building under construction on the School of Medicine campus has been completed. The construction project, which began in summer 2013, has a June 2015 target date for completion.

Medical school employees appreciated at picnic

School of Medicine employees ignored the unexpected chill in the air Friday, Sept. 12, and came out in droves for the annual employee appreciation picnic on the Medical Campus. The picnic was sponsored by the dean’s office and the Medical School Management Council.

Washington University’s Integrating Communication within the Cancer Environment Institute is accepting applications for pilot research projects. Proposals are due 4 p.m. Dec. 19.

Medical Campus town halls focus on Ferguson, diversity, inclusion

School of Medicine faculty, staff and students came together for three town hall meetings last week in response to the tragic events in Ferguson. Attendees talked about how to help Ferguson and how to improve diversity and inclusion at the university. Two more meetings will be held on the Medical Campus this week.

First-year medical students receive white coats

First-year students at the School of Medicine recently participated in the traditional White Coat Ceremony — a rite of passage in which future doctors are welcomed to medical school and the medical profession. In addition to receiving their white coats, the 123 students recited an oath promising honesty and integrity.
