The 4th annual Take Steps for Kids 5K and 1 Mile will take place Saturday, March 24, on the Danforth Campus. Presented by the Washington University Club Running team, the event raises proceeds for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri youth mentoring organization.

Through a new partnership between the Habif Health and Wellness Center and the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, students now can have diagnostic X-rays taken right on the South 40. WUSTL has invested in equipment and human resources to make quality medical care even more accessible to nearly 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

A three-phase construction project will bring the Gephardt Institute for Public Service into the Danforth University Center (DUC) and consolidate student media groups on campus. The Gephardt Institute and key student media — including Student Life, WUTV and KWUR 90.3 FM — will be grouped on the center’s third floor adjacent to the DUC Recording Studio. Construction begins March 19.

“Faces of Hope,” an event celebrating Washington University’s community partnership and impact, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, in Danforth University Center, Room 276. The entire campus community is invited to this interactive poster session and networking reception highlighting WUSTL’s community engagement.

The annual Architecture & Design Career Fair will take place from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in Steinberg Hall lobby. Students and alumni will have the opportunity to meet with top architecture firms, as well as professional and trade organizations. Architects also will be on hand to review student and alumni portfolios.

There are 195 more potential donors in the national Be The Match bone marrow registry as a result of a campus drive Feb. 29. Adding more diverse members increases the likelihood that all patients will find a life-saving match. This is one of the reasons WUSTL organizers decided to launch an even larger, more visible drive this year.

The Campus Diversity Collaborative, which aims to increase awareness of diversity and inclusion issues at Washington University in St. Louis, is seeking new members among faculty and staff. Those who participate do not necessarily have diversity promotion as an official job duty, but share a passion for the issue and are able to impact the greater WUSTL community through their participation.

The annual African Film Festival at Washington University in St. Louis begins Friday, March 23. Over the course of three days, eight different films will showcase the African continent and its people. During a youth matinee, award-winning director, writer and animator Cilia Sawadogo will answer audience questions about her film.

CAUSE — the Committee for the Assessment of the Undergraduate Student Experience — is a new group established to more thoroughly and accurately measure the WUSTL undergraduate student experience.The committee, 15 members from throughtout the university community, will coordinate WUSTL assessment efforts, educate the campus community and keep an archive of existing and prior assessments.

“Africa Week 2012: Vive l’Afrique!” highlighting the far-reaching influences of the African continent, begins Monday, Feb. 27, on the Danforth Campus. Events range from free fashion and comedy shows to an in-depth roundtable discussion, a dance workshop and ‘A Taste of Africa.’  The annual week is sponsored by the African Students Association. ​
