WUSTL will test its outdoor warning sirens on the Danforth Campus at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in conjunction with St. Louis County’s monthly siren test.

Washington University releases energy reduction plan

Washington University in St. Louis has released its plan to reduce energy use on its campuses. The plan — developed by the university’s Energy Reduction Committee — details the university’s past energy-reduction achievements, its aspirations for energy reduction as outlined in the Strategic Plan for Environmentally Sustainable Operations, and specific recommendations on how the university plans to achieve those aspirations.

Hillel Kieval, PhD, the Gloria M. Goldstein Professor of Jewish History and Thought, has spent the past 25 years studying European Jews in the 19th and 20th centuries. His chief focus is the various ways in which they identified with, and struggled against, their European environment.

Class of 2014 settles into life on Danforth Campus

Approximately 1,600 members of the Class of 2014 arrived on campus this past August. Nearly all the freshmen graduated in the top 5 percent or 10 percent of their high school class, and more than 60 percent traveled at least 500 miles from their hometowns to WUSTL. “We were impressed with their talents and abilities, as they stood out among the finest students in their high schools around the world,” says Julie Shimabukuro, director of admissions.

A warm Woman’s Club welcome

Seven defibrillators placed in high-volume areas across Danforth Campus

Washington University installed automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in seven areas across the Danforth Campus Sept. 16 with a high volume of foot traffic. An AED is a computerized medical device that can monitor a person’s heart rhythm and can recognize when a distressed person requires a shock to re-establish a normal heart rhythm.
