WUSTL’s Summer School in Arts & Sciences will present a film series celebrating Frankenstein movies, “It’s Alive! A Celebration of Frankenstein Films,” this June and July. Each film will be introduced by a WUSTL scholar specializing in the genres of cinematic horror and literary monsters. All screenings are free and open to the public.

Howard Benjamin Rudnick, a history and economics major in Arts & Sciences, has been named the winner of the 2011 William Miles Prize at Washington University in St. Louis.

Faculty, staff and students who wish to park vehicles on the Danforth Campus during the upcoming 2011-12 academic year must renew their parking permits. Permits for the 2010-11 academic year expire Thursday, June 30. Permits can be renewed online at parking.wustl.edu or at the Parking and Transportation Services office in North Campus.

In her 32 years at the School of Law, Beverly M. Owens has supported the education and research endeavors of thousands of law faculty members and students. In recognition of her hard work and dedication, Owens, assistant director for faculty support in the law school, was recognized with the Gloria W. White Distinguished Service Award in a May 23 ceremony in Edison Theatre.

Graduating senior Frances Fei and her father drop off a TV and other items for donation to the Share Our Stuff (SOS) “Lightening Your Load” event May 21 at the Academy Building. At the event, WUSTL students in the process of moving out and other community members could donate unneeded items to Goodwill rather than throw them away.

At Staff Day, many employees were honored for their years of service to Washington University in St. Louis.

Robert L. Payton, vice chancellor for university development from 1960-65 and vice chancellor for planning from 1965-66, died May 19, 2011, at a skilled nursing facility in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was 84.

A new weather alerts page on the university emergency website, emergency.wustl.edu, will give the university community information about how they can sign up for weather-related emails and text-message alerts from the National Weather Service and other local news outlets. The page can be found at emergency.wustl.edu/resources/weather_alerts.html or by going to emergency.wustl.edu and clicking on the “Weather Alerts” link in the “Alerts” box.

Getting a Twitter account going for a department or organization is relatively simple, but making the most of the social media platform can be a challenge. Washington University librarians will explore how to use Twitter as a powerful publicity tool in a workshop at Olin Library from 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21. Registration is free and is open to WUSTL students, faculty and staff as well as people from other institutions and nonprofit organizations.
