April 19
2:14 p.m. — A resident of Millbrook Apartments reported money and a watch missing from her room. The room had been left open by contractors working on the doors in the building as part of the fire repairs. The theft occurred between 2:30-7 p.m. April 18. Total loss is estimated at $360.
April 23
1:08 p.m. — A classroom manager in Louderman Hall reported that between 3 p.m. April 16 and 1 p.m. April 18, an unknown person took a black wireless Shure bodypack microphone. Total loss is estimated at $278.
April 24
9:53 p.m. — Eight pairs of blue jeans were stolen from a storage closet in Gregg Residence Hall between 2 p.m. April 23 and 9 p.m. April 24. Total loss is estimated at $285.
Additionally, University Police responded to two larcenies, two lost articles, two assaults and one report each of DWI, drug offense, false fire alarm, auto accident and property damage.
Summer Writers Institute offers new program to high-schoolers
Now in its 12th year, the Summer Writers Institute — held June 18-29 — will include a Young Writers Institute geared toward high school juniors and seniors.
Orozco wins biology’s Spector Award
Senior Jonathan Garst Orozco has been named winner of the Department of Biology in Arts & Sciences Spector Award, presented annually in memory of Marion Smith Spector, a 1938 graduate of the University.

Jeff Pike named first Hitzeman professor of art
Jeff Pike, dean of the College of Art and the Graduate School of Art, has been named the first Jane Reuter Hitzeman and Herbert F. Hitzeman Jr. Professor of Art in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, according to Carmon Colangelo, the E. Desmond Lee Professor for Collaboration in the Arts and dean of the Sam Fox School.

1:24 a.m. — A subject caused a disturbance attempting to gain entry to Olin Library without a University ID. Upon contact, the subject was checked and found to have multiple outstanding warrants.
April 15
4:12 p.m. — The complainant reported his unsecured bicycle stolen from the top level of Lein Parking Garage near the east entrance/patio area of Nathan Dardick House.
April 17
9:23 a.m. — The complainant reported a lost or stolen ring while at Student Health Services March 28.
University Police also responded to one report each of assault, damaged property, drug violation and lost article.
