For more than 30 years, Ken Burns has been making award-winning documentaries, capturing various slices of American history with each film. The university recently recognized Burns’ major contributions to the documentary genre by awarding him the Washington University International Humanities Medal. In November 2012, Burns visited the university to accept the award, sponsored by the Center for the Humanities and University Libraries and supported by Phyllis Wilson Grossman and David Grossman, PhD. While at the university, Burns discussed three of his new films: The Dust Bowl (2012; pictured above), The Central Park Five (2012), and The Roosevelts (2014). He also met with a small group of faculty and students to discuss his creative processes.
