Monica McDonald, a graduate student in the Department of Anthropology in Arts & Sciences, is a finalist in a 2016 student competition sponsored by the International Primatological Society and the American Society of Primatologists.
McDonald’s submitted paper on “Factors influencing reproductive success in a Kinda x chacma baboon hybrid group in Kafue National Park, Zambia” was selected as a finalist in the oral presentation category. She will present her paper during student competitions held at the organizations’ joint meeting in Chicago Aug. 21-27.
McDonald’s research uses observational and genetic techniques to examine reproductive success and hybridization between two types of baboons, the kinda and grayfooted chacma baboons, which differ markedly in body size and social behavior. She is carrying out her research in the southern part of Kafue National Park, Zambia.
