Saher Alam, an adjunct instructor in creative writing in University College at Washington University in St. Louis, has received the Marion Horstmann Online Teaching Innovation Grant.

A new tool using math has been designed to help sports franchises keep the fan experience at stadiums and arenas the safest it can be in this era of COVID-19. The formula was developed in part by John E. McCarthy, the Spencer T. Olin Professor of Mathematics in Arts & Sciences and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Washington University in St. Louis.

Jonathan Barnes, assistant professor of chemistry in Arts & Sciences, was selected as one of 15 Young Investigators by the American Chemical Society’s Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering. The selection recognizes Barnes’ excellence in polymer research and marks him as an emerging leader in the field.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the School of Medicine has opened a telemedicine health clinic for employees and dependents ages 18 and older who suffer from minor ailments and acute illnesses.

Richard L. Wahl, MD, the Elizabeth E. Mallinckrodt Professor and head of the Department of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine, has been elected president of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. He will serve a one-year term as president-elect and then step into the presidency in July 2021.

Jeffrey M. Zacks, associate chair and professor of psychological and brain sciences in Arts & Sciences and professor of radiology at the School of Medicine, received a four-year $250,000 grant from the James S.
