(Photo: Jamie Adams, Sam Fox School) Alejandro García Padilla, governor of Puerto Rico, spoke at the Brookings Institute July 12 as part of the fifth annual Municipal Finance Conference. The governor’s remarks came shortly after the territory received relief to its debt crisis, as Congress acted to keep Puerto Rico from defaulting on a $2 billion debt payment. The Municipal Finance Conference is a collaboration among the Hutchins Center on Fiscal and Monetary Policy at Brookings, Olin Business School and the Rosenberg Institute of Global Finance at Brandeis International Business School. (Photo: James Byard/Washington University) During the recent international conference at the Missouri Botanical Garden to discuss progress on the global strategy for plant conservation, Peter Wyse Jackson (right), president of the garden and the George Engelmann Professor of Botany at Washington University in St. Louis, signed a memorandum of understanding with Didik Widyatmoko, director of Bogor Botanic Gardens, south of Jakarta, Indonesia, to solidify the gardens’ collaborative relationship.
