Himadri Pakrasi, the Myron and Sonya Glassberg/Albert and Blanche Greensfelder Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences and director of the International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability (I-CARES), presented the lead address at the “Sustainable and Affordable Energy Challenge for the World” symposium at Columbia University.
“This one-day symposium showcased the acute need to develop large-scale carbon-neutral renewable energy technologies to mitigate the deleterious effects of global warming,” Pakrasi said. His address was titled “Sustainability and Bioenergy: Challenges and Opportunities.”
The event, held May 8, brought together experts in the fields of energy, the environment and sustainability. Those at the symposium discussed how to integrate more variable energy into the power grid and the potential of creating fuels from sunlight and carbon dioxide.
