Harvey Fields, assistant director for academic programs at Cornerstone, the Center for Advanced Learning at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named assistant dean for student success.
The position is new and will advance the university’s commitment to better serve low-income and first-generation students.
During his years at Cornerstone, Fields has strived to break down barriers for low-income students and to create a campus culture that values diversity and inclusion. In 2015, Fields drafted a report at the request of the Office of the Provost that offered recommendations to better prepare students for college life and provide the resources necessary to fully engage in academic and campus life. Some of those recommendations — full scholarships for pre-orientation and Summer Orientation and Registration (SOAR) programs and aid for summer-school classes — will be implemented this spring.
